ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
MANAGEMENT APPROACH
Environmental management is a top priority of GREENFEED’s operation management. Accordingly, in order to ensure the applicability and effectiveness of technical solutions, the Group carries out a process of reviewing and assessing all aspects of the environmental impacts based on the specificity of each segment. This is a particular process which requires expertise and experiences in livestock waste management.
GREENFEED has carried out a number of ground-breaking initiatives for livestock waste and wastewater treatment such as wastewater treatment and biogas utilization for power generation in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In particular, solid waste is processed by composting and earthworm farming method to transform pig manure into vermicompost. After harvesting, vermicompost will continue to undergo a process into organic fertilizer products, which can be directly used in cultivating crops or distributed to farmers and surrounding farms.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY
GREENFEED identifies energy management and energy efficiency as its top priority to optimize costs, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment.
The Group also implements energy-saving programs to help evaluate the effectiveness of technical solutions in management and operation including:
-
Use biomass as fuel for steam boilers in feed mills; install inverters to save energy; install a system of compensating capacitors to reduce transmission power losses; install an air dryer and making use of waste heat to boil water to save fuel for steam boilers
-
Use solar panels at Dong Nai Feed mill with an average power output of more than 700,000kWh/year
-
Prioritize operation during off-peak hours to ensure reasonable electricity consumption costs and optimize production plans
-
Promote internal communication about energy saving, rational use of air conditioning and lighting system
GHG EMISSIONS
As a part of the journey towards sustainability, GREENFEED sets short-term, medium-term and long-term goals based on materiality assessment across business areas. In which, GREENFEED establishes the goals of renewable energy use and GHG emissions reduction in line with Vietnam’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Many practical initiatives are also implemented throughout its business units to strive for these goals.
GREENFEED has implemented solutions to reduce non-biodegradable plastic packaging including:
-
Distribute bulk feed via silo systems to replace 20% of plastic packaging
-
Increase the rate of waste segregation and recovery, reuse and recycling by up to 90%
-
Maintain and improve the feed conversion rate (FCR) to reduce the emission of GHG in livestock waste treatment
WATER USAGE & WASTEWATER TREATMENT
LIVESTOCK WASTE MANAGEMENT
GREENFEED focuses on technologies to manage environmental impact, reduce footprints, striving for a circular economy including:
-
Separate solid-liquid manure for treatment and recycling the nutrient
-
Apply HDPE aerated lagoon for wastewater treatment and biogas recovery
-
Earthworm farming model: transform pig waste into organic fertilizers
-
Use composting method for organic waste treatment
-
Use biogas to run generators for power
CIRCULAR ECONOMY PRACTICE
GREENFEED has successfully implemented the earthworm farming model for pig waste treatment, thereby creating nutrient-rich organic vermicompost that is beneficial for plant growth. In 2018, GREENFEED’s farm experts used to struggle to find optimal solutions. Throughout hundreds of experiments,
they gradually find the answer to earthworm care and reproduction procedure. It is also the first-ever model of pig waste treatment with earthworms. In fact, Cu Jut (Tay Nguyen) and Dong Nam Bo 2 (Binh Thuan) are two farms that GREENFEED selected to pilot the model.
ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE
Promoting environmental protection goals is the responsibility of all managers, with an emphasis on the following areas:
-
Invest in environmental protection works in accordance with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report
-
Monitor and minimize waste generation; collaborate and transfer waste matters in accordance with regulations
-
Carry out periodical monitoring and supervision of environmental quality at all operation sites; evaluate the effectiveness of the programs and follows the operating procedures
-
Promote internal and external communication about environmental management policies and procedures spread to relevant stakeholders
-
Participate in consultation training programs by the Ministries, Departments and Sectors that disseminate and update environmental policies
