1. Poultry Farming in 2025 Expected to Achieve Sustainable Growth

In 2025, despite the challenges facing the livestock industry due to disease outbreaks and fluctuating input costs, the poultry farming sector is expected to maintain relatively stable growth, becoming a bright spot in the livestock production structure of many localities.

According to assessments by specialized agencies, the total poultry population nationwide continues to grow thanks to stable consumption demand and the promotion of biosafety farming models. Many localities have proactively reorganized production towards a closed-loop chain from breeding stock, feed, farming to slaughtering, processing, and consumption, contributing to increasing product value and reducing risks for farmers.

In 2025, several localities recorded impressive growth in the total poultry population. Specifically, Can Tho increased by 12.7%; Gia Lai by 7.8%; and Thanh Hoa by 6.9%. Nghe An saw a 6.8% increase; Quang Ngai saw a 5.9% increase. This reflects the shift from small-scale, individual farming to concentrated farm and household-scale production, adopting advanced techniques and more effective disease management.

Furthermore, poultry farming enterprises and cooperatives are playing an increasingly important role in leading the market. Contracts for product procurement, input supply, and technology transfer help farmers feel secure in their production, gradually forming concentrated farming areas that meet traceability and food safety requirements.

However, poultry farming still faces the risk of disease outbreaks, especially avian influenza. By the end of 2025, avian influenza outbreaks were still expected in some localities such as Ninh Binh, Quang Ngai, and Khanh Hoa, requiring all levels and sectors to continue strengthening monitoring, early warning systems, and decisively addressing any outbreaks.

Currently, poultry farmers are focusing on restocking and increasing their flocks to meet the high demand during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year). To ensure sustainable poultry farming, authorities recommend continuing to promote vaccination, strictly applying biosecurity measures, and strengthening control over slaughter, transportation, and trade of poultry to protect the rights of farmers and the health of consumers.

2. Pork production in 2025 to increase by nearly 4%

The General Statistics Office reported that pig farming was relatively favorable in the first six months of the year thanks to well-controlled disease outbreaks and favorable product prices. However, in the third quarter of 2025, African swine fever outbreaks and spread nationwide caused significant losses to pig farming.

According to the General Statistics Office, the amount of pork produced in the fourth quarter of 2025 is expected to increase by 1.8% compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.35 million tons. Overall in 2025, the number of pigs slaughtered increased by 4% to nearly 5.4 million tons.

The General Statistics Office reported that pig farming was relatively favorable in the first six months of the year thanks to well-controlled disease outbreaks, favorable product prices, ensuring profits for farmers, and creating momentum for maintaining and expanding production.

However, in the third quarter of 2025, African swine fever broke out and spread nationwide, causing significant losses to pig farming, with a sharp decrease in the total pig population. Some provinces were severely affected, such as Cao Bang (down 20.5% compared to the previous year), Lai Chau (down 16.5%), and Quang Tri (down 9.7%).

Pig farming at large-scale enterprises and farms continued to maintain stable production and expand investment thanks to the application of biosecurity measures. Some localities saw an increase in the total pig population, such as Tay Ninh (up 19.9% compared to the previous year) and Gia Lai (up 13.8%). Lam Dong's exports increased by 7.5%, contributing to offsetting losses due to disease outbreaks.

As of December 31, 2025, the country will no longer have outbreaks of swine fever, foot-and-mouth disease, and lumpy skin disease; avian influenza will remain in Ninh Binh, Quang Ngai, and Khanh Hoa, and African swine fever will remain in 23 localities for less than 21 days.

Regarding trade activities, the Import-Export Department, citing data from the Customs Department, stated that in the first 11 months of 2025, Vietnam exported approximately 7,400 tons of fresh, chilled, or frozen pork, earning 59 million USD, a decrease of 12% in volume but an increase of 12% in value compared to the same period last year.

Conversely, Vietnam imported 157,000 tons of pork, 22 times more than exports and an increase of 57% compared to the same period last year.
