Press Release – The Meals of Smiles of GREENFEED celebrates 2 million meals milestone, bringing a wholesome Tet to children across the country

GREENFEED has given over 5,200 Tet gifts and 4.3 tons of sausages to children at 15 shelters and 16 schools in Na Hang (Tuyen Quang), Meo Vac (Ha Giang). The activity is under the Meals of Smiles program which was launched in 2019 with an aim of improving meal quality for Vietnamese children.

Ho Chi Minh City, January 4th, 2023 – After 3 years of implementation, “Meals of Smile” officially surpassed the 2 million meals milestone (equivalent to 35 billion VND), helping  improve nutrition for over 18,500 children at 60 shelters and 45 schools across the country. This milestone is more meaningful as every meal and gift given in December 2022 contributed to making a wholesome for more than 7,500 underprivileged children.

Tet comes with new hopes, however, there are many underprivileged children only wishing for a fulfilling Tet holiday. The directive 22/CT-TTg on 23/12/2022 of the Prime Minister on the work of welcoming the Lunar New Year 2023 has emphasized, it is significant to assure every child is able to have Tet holiday safely, joyfully, and healthily, especially underprivileged children, children from ethnic minorities and highland provinces.

As a corporation that always strives for sharing goodness to the community, especially children, GREENFEED has visited and given food & Tet gifts to 15 shelters across the country and 16 schools in Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang under the programme Meal of Smiles:

  • 4,700 Tet gifts and 3.36 tons of sausages (equivalent to 33,600 packs) were given to over 5.000 children in Na Hang(Tuyen Quang) and Meo Vac province (Ha Giang).
  • 1,130 Tet gifts and more than 5.5 tons of food including pork, poultry, pasteurized sausages, and processed products from GREENFEED’s food brands (G, WYN, leBoucher) were given to 2,500 children at shelters in 6 provinces and cities, including Quang Ngai, Binh Thuan, Dak Nong, An Giang, Vinh Long, and Ho Chi Minh.

Mr. Ly Anh Duy Quang, Director of the Corporate Social Responsibility Department, GREENFEED Vietnam, shared: “This is the second year that the Meals of Smiles campaign has come to highland children who are facing many challenges and shortages due to geographical distances and inclement weather. In 2022, we visited schools in Lai Chau and Dien Bien. We hope that every gift will contribute to making a more wholesome Tet for children”.

Over 2 million meals and the journey of smiles

Starting in 2019, up to now, the Meals of Smiles program has provided 2.000.772 meals for over 18.500 children at 60 shelters and 45 schools in 12 provinces, including Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Quang Ngai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Gia Lai, Binh Thuan, Ho Chi Minh City, An Giang and Vinh Long. Significantly, the program has given a periodical support to 3.080 children at 38 shelters and schools. Only in 2022, the program provided more than 900.000 meals and periodically supported 1.150 children at 11 shelters and schools across the country.

Over 2 million meals is equivalent to:

  • 96 tons of pork
  • 96 tons of poultry
  • More than 428.500 eggs
  • 24 tons of processed products
  • Total support value: 35 billion VND

Ms. Pham Thi Doan, General School Ward 25, Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City – one of the beneficiaries of periodic support from the program, said: “We are delighted when receiving support from the Meals of Smiles program and GREENFEED. Thanks to the program, over 2 recent years, the kids’ lunch has been more nutritious and diverse with eggs, meat, spring rolls, and sausages,… Small change but big impact. It helps us to create a connection between families and schools, and encourages children to go to school.”

Looking ahead, the Meals of Smiles program will continue to share goodness to children, affirming its commitment to enhancing meal quality and nutrition for Vietnamese Vietnam, thereby promoting 02 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations (UN): No Hunger and Reduced Inequality. The program aims to reach the milestone of 03 million meals in 2024.
